The Edwards Family | Family travels to Houston to create beautiful Family Portraits in our studio.
I was so excited when I was contacted to create a family portrait for the Edwards Family. Their family of three has recently become a family of four, when they welcomed a beautiful baby girl.
Before any of our session experiences our artist, Maria schedules a Discovery call. What is a Discovery call?
A discovery call is an opportunity for Maria to get to know you and your family. She will ask you lots of questions to gain as much insight into your family, and the small details that matter to you. It is important to capture your bond, and make the experience enjoyable for every member; so that these portraits are attached to beautiful memories.
We also want to create artwork that will inspire you, and bring you immense joy and pride every time you walk by. A portrait that makes your guest remark on the beauty and quality of your art. Art that is uniquely you.
Where do we shoot our Family Portraits?
Our family portraits are held in our Cypress Studio Monday through Saturday. These sessions can be scheduled at 10 Am, 2 pm, or 6 pm. In the studio, our clients have access to an extensive wardrobe with styles that range from vintage, too dramatic. We keep our portraits simple with classic backdrops and little to no props so that the focus of every portrait is your Family.
Mom get’s the Make Over
First, the mom gets her hair and makeup done by Maria or one of her talented Makeup Artist. The make up we chose will be approved by you, but we like to keep things classic and glamorous so that your portraits never look dated. You can’t go wrong with classic makeup because it has been on trends for decades. We also like to pick moms outfit first and style the rest of the family around what Mom chooses. This outfit can be something from our client wardrobe or a piece you bring.
For our Mom, we chose a beautiful romantic tulle ball gown with beautiful 3D flowers and pearls. It has a sweetheart neckline and is part of our client closet.
Motherhood Captured
Because our baby girl was a little tired from all of her traveling she wanted to stay close to mom. Normally we like to begin with the Family portraits, but we always want to stay in tune with our families feelings and comfort. So, instead, we began the shoot with Mom and baby girl. She is the sweetest baby with big gorgeous eyes and a serious cherub face.
To my surprise, her little boy was enthusiastic about being photographed. He displayed so much charisma and offered us so many expressions.
We don’t ask kids to smile, or not smile, we simply allow them to give us the expressions that come naturally to them, and we reward them with ooh’s and aaaah’s. Because children, when allowed to just be themselves, are perfect and captivating.
Fatherhood, an important bond
We understand that for a lot of Dad’s family photoshoots can be a stressful experience. We make our best effort to make the experience enjoyable and fast enough so that dad’s want to be a part of their portraits and want to EXCLUSIVELY return to us. ( I am totally making a joke, but also … am not joking!)
I find to my surprise plenty of Dads want to come back to our studio and even request their own Fatherhood sessions. We are more than happy and ecstatic to do so.

The Edwards family chose a beautiful 20 inch framed canvas for their family portrait, and an acrylic covered album to display their family portraits. The gallery curated to tell their story and be cherished for many years to come.
